The LANDNET is an informal network of mainly Central and Eastern European institutions. Most countries in this region are transition countries that face severe problems in their rural land structure. Fragmentation of ownership and small scale of holdings are prominent. Weak institutional frameworks cause bad functioning land markets that prevent investments and creation of viable, competitive rural areas. Organisations and key experts in CEE countries need an international network to exchange effectively experiences on instruments, approaches and legislative frameworks.
The FAO Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia has organised several events since 2002 to exchange knowledge and develop capacity. The FARLAND Network and its partners are supporting FAO since 2008 by co-organising and faciliating the international events.
The next LANDNET event will be held from 13-16 February 2012 in Budapest and organised by FAO, DLG and FARLAND. Announcement of the programme will follow soon!
